Humans never found the Last Mammoths on this frozen Siberian island...

Field notes

(Today’s video was made in collaboration with Colossal Biosciences ( @Colossal ) - this series “Extinctions Through Time” follows Colossal’s 6 Key Species & the world events taking place during their existence & extinction.) In Episode 2, we dive into the human history of the Ice Age’s Extinct Giant: the Woolly Mammoth… and how the very last Woolly Mammoth’s survived on a small, frozen, Siberian Island called Wrangel Island for 6,000 years, never to be found by humans.

We dive into Colossal’s de-extinction project regarding the Mammoth, as well as exploring potential causes for why the Mammoth went extinct so long ago: did humans play a factor? Can we bring back the Woolly Mammoth? We explore the ancient history of these Ice Age giants and the cutting-edge de-extinction science from Colossal Biosciences.
